Wafer Level Optics(WLO) of Silicon Lens

In recent years, the emerging low-end market is gradually unleashing its potential for widespread application in multiple fields, such as temperature measurement in smartphones and smart homes. This puts higher requirements for the cost-effectiveness and large-scale supply capabilities of products. However, the traditional processing methods is weak in terms of cost control and supply efficiency, making it difficult to meet the urgent needs of the current market.

In response to the industry challenge of cost reduction and efficiency improvement, in 2022, Sunny Infrared Optics established a special R&D team to explore the processing technology of WLO array lenses. After a series of process innovations and technical optimizations, the team recently achieved a major breakthrough by successfully developing WLO silicon microlens arrays with diameter of 5mm and sag height within 200μm, and realize the high-efficiency of lens production.

During the process development of WLO, we has overcome a number of technical difficulties. Firstly, the special lens design is applied to the mold processing, which significantly reduces the processing cost of the array molds; secondly, the technical team has opened up a complete technical path to solve the problems of eccentricity and surface precision which are common in array lenses; in addition, the convenient assembly of lenses is realized through the reasonable structural parts design.

Up to now, Sunny Infrared Optics have successfully completed the trial validation of WLO microlens array process development technology, which can be applied to various types of small-diameter high-volume consumer-grade scenarios. The application of this technology not only opens up a new path for the significant reduction of lens processing cost, but also lays a solid foundation of process for the large-scale production of φ100mm, φ150mm and other large diameter array lenses.
